“Lavender Hill was built over one hundred years ago in 1910, and it took ten years to build. All the stones you see on the house, barn, and pool were found on the property. You may notice the windows are small and set deep, which was necessary with the building technology of the time. The ceilings are low, which is also a typical architecture of farmhouses heated only by fire or wood stove. The low ceilings keep the heat inside during the winter. You can see the stone walls are over two feet deep like in old European castles. This is great for keeping the house cool in the summer and warm in the winter. The man that built the home was a Quaker who believed in a quiet and peaceful existence. Years ago, the property and barn were a working dairy farm with horses and cattle. We purchased the house fifty years ago and it has been our family home ever since. For our first few years here we had goats, chickens, sheep, and rabbits for our daughters to play with. We raised two girls into women in this home and they have brought back their husbands and our grandchildren on many family weekends. It is a special property, and we hope that your family builds memories here like we have.
